I particularly like how the game isn't afraid of letting certain areas and moments sit in silence, all the more powerful for not having any music at all. The music and sound design perfectly complement it all as well. The use of color is inspired-at times you could almost mistake it for black and white, which just makes the vivid splashes of color stand out all the more. The world design is wonderfully Dark Souls-y, not only in how it constantly winds back on itself and exploring deep in one area might unlock a surprise pathway to another, but also in how much storytelling is being done by the basic construction of the world. Visually its stunning, and impressive how they manage to maintain a cohesive style (sort of like Tim Burton meets Jhonen Vasquez meets Hayao Mizazaki, sitting perfectly in the sweet spot between creepy, cute, and downright beautiful) and tone (bleak and somber but punctuated by moments of quiet wonder and joy), while having such huge variety and creativity in zones. (Between this and Celeste, the Switch is really scratching my gorgeously-atmospheric-yet-tough-as-nails platformer itch). I was finally able to pick this up now that its out for Switch, and I'm totally smitten with it.
